The Newtowncunningham community is mourning the loss of a much-loved local lady, Bridie Kernan, following her passing on Thursday last.
Mrs Kernan (née Dawson), of Main Street, Newtowncunningham and formerly of Mount Southwell, Letterkenny, will be laid to rest today, Tuesday.
She was an integral part of the Kernan retail group alongside her husband, Seamus.
As postmistress at Kernans Post Office in Newtowncunningham, she was a key local figure. After Bridie and Seamus’ son, Anthony, became the new Postmaster in 1999, she remained a much-loved and familiar face for many years at the Kernans store in Newtowncunningham.
“She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her,” said a tribute from Kernans.
As a mark of respect, the Kernans Newtowncunningham store will be closed today from 12 noon to 1pm for Bridie’s funeral.
Bridie will be sadly missed by her loving husband Seamus, her daughter Adrienne (predeceased by Adriano), her sons Anthony (Breid), Barry (Rosaleen), and Mark (Annette), and her daughter Maria (Vincent). She will be fondly remembered by her cherished grandchildren Lucca, Francesca, Laura, James, Jessica, Daniella, Owen, Olivia, Peter, Christian and great-grandchild Daniela.
