Actor Suresh Krishna, popularly dubbed Malayalam cinema’s ’Convincing Star,’ has revealed a mischievous childhood incident that left a permanent scar on his forehead.

The actor, who will next be seen in Althaf Salim’s upcoming film ‘Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira’ alongside Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan, recalled the story during an interview with Veena Mukundan for Originals.

When asked about the scar, Krishna explained that it dated back to when he was around 10 years old. “It is something I got from my childhood because I was mischievous. I had stepped down into a pond in my ancestral house to catch a cobra snake … While stepping down, I slipped and fell and hit my head. That’s how I got this scar,” he said.

The actor added that the pond, surrounded by pineapple groves, was often frequented by snakes. On that particular day, he spotted a cobra while fishing and attempted to catch it. Instead, he slipped, fell on a stone and injured his head.

Director Althaf Salim, who was present during the interview, interrupted playfully: “I think he went there to convince the snake.”

Krishna laughed off the incident, recalling that mischief was part of his daily routine as a child. “It was just the fun of that age. That’s how I enjoyed my childhood. Eventually, I was beaten up for chasing the cobra, on top of the injury I had already sustained from the fall. Every day there was something or the other I’d get scolded or beaten for,” he said.

The ‘Convincing Star’ moniker, which has become a social-media trend, stems from Krishna’s recurring roles where his characters manipulate or persuade others, often leading them into bigger troubles. The label first gained traction with his role as George Kutty in the Mohanlal-starrer ‘Christian Brothers’. In a pivotal scene, his character commits a murder and then convinces Mohanlal’s character to hold the weapon and face the police, promising to return with an attorney. Clips of the scene, set against the song “Panineer Nilavin Poomazha,” later went viral, cementing Krishna’s reputation.

While trolls popularised the title, fans now affectionately associate it with Krishna’s ability to deliver convincing performances, particularly in antagonistic roles where he deceives protagonists or supporting characters.

Meanwhile, ‘Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira’, Althaf Salim’s second directorial after ‘Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela’ (2017), is slated for release on August 29 2025. The film also features an ensemble cast including Vinay Forrt, Lal, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Vineeth Thattil David, Babu Antony, Noby Marcose, Saafboi and Anuraj OB, with music by Justin Varghese.
