A minor alleged to have been planning an attack at a Montreal school has been arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the force announced Friday.
Investigators had reason to fear the suspect could commit crimes related to violent extremism. He is alleged to have used artificial intelligence to help plan a potential attack and to have posted threatening messages targeting Muslims, Haitians and the LGBTQ+ community on the messaging app Telegram.
The population was never at risk, according to RCMP Sgt. and media relations officer Erique Gasse, who said in an interview that the force was surveilling the minor after receiving a tip from the FBI in the U.S. a few weeks ago.
