Liverpool are assessing their next move as they look to sign a right winger after having two bids for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh rejected in 24 hours.
It has been Liverpool’s priority all summer to find a replacement for Mohamed Salah and they followed up long-standing interest in Minteh on Thursday with an offer of £50m that was immediately rebuffed by Brighton. The Gambia international joined Brighton for £30m in 2024, but they were not interested in doing business at almost double that price on Friday when Liverpool returned with an improved proposal for £60m, and it remains to be seen how this will play out.
Brighton, it is understood, value the 22-year-old around the £70m mark and there is a belief that figure accurately reflects the current state of the transfer window, given how much potential for improvement Minteh possesses.
Minteh, who is currently injured and will not be fit until October following surgery on his right leg, offers pace and a goal threat at his best and Liverpool’s scouts have watched his progress at Newcastle, Feyenoord – where he played under former head coach Arne Slot – and Brighton.
