A New York grandmother of five who vanished while visiting Las Vegas has been found dead near the Nevada city’s airport, her family says. Relatives of 63-year-old Alisa Goods announced on Friday that her body was discovered near Harry Reid International Airport, nearly two weeks after she was reported missing on Aug. 10 while in town to see a friend, reports People. Family members said that two days after the missing-persons report was filed, they began getting unusual text messages from her phone asking for assistance, gas money, and bitcoin—requests that alarmed them because Goods didn’t drive.
The friend whom Goods was staying with, meanwhile, told Goods’ family that Goods had left on Aug. 8 to go to CVS and never returned, per WABC. Local authorities say surveillance cameras caught Goods stumbling down an embankment, getting up from the ground, then collapsing once more. There was no movement seen after that, per FOX5, which notes Goods’ body was found in a drainage ditch near one of the airport’s parking garages.
In a statement shared with local media, niece Alana Calloway said the family’s “hearts are broken” and called it “an unimaginable time,” while Goods’ daughter Kristen Goods confirmed her mother’s death in a GoFundMe set up for funeral costs and other related expenses, per People. Authorities haven’t publicly disclosed exactly how Goods died, and Las Vegas police haven’t yet responded to media questions about the case.
