Woman who fled Wyoming with 11-month-old child pleads guilty to murder in southwest New Mexico
GRANT COUNTY, N.M. —
A mother who took her 11-month-old child after losing custody in Wyoming and brought the child to New Mexico has entered a guilty plea related to the child’s death.
According to the Sixth Judicial District Attorney, Madeline Veronique Daly pled guilty to first-degree murder after she shot and killed her child in southwest New Mexico.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says Daly brought her 11-month-old son to New Mexico after fleeing the state of Wyoming in violation of a court order that granted the child’s father emergency custody of the child.
Deputies found Daly and her child in an RV that was located in a rural area on Highway 15 in Grant County. When deputies were working to obtain a search warrant and surrounded the RV, a gunshot was heard. Deputies then entered the RV and found she had shot and killed her son with a handgun.
Daly is now facing life in prison following her guilty plea. A sentencing hearing for Daly will be held at a later date.
