Bandits hit Dia Amore Jewellers shortly before 2 p.m. Monday; details sparse as Barrie police say investigation is ‘very much in the early stages’

Barrie police are investigating after a brazen jewelry store robbery Monday afternoon at Georgian Mall on Bayfield Street.

Officers received the call at 1:53 p.m. on Aug. 18 at Dia Amore Jewellers.

The investigation is “very much in the early stages,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday.

More details are expected to be released Tuesday, he said.

A handgun and an ammunition clip could be seen on the floor of the store near the glass doorway, along with a small sledgehammer. Shattered glass display cases were also evident.

The same Georgian Mall store was hit by thieves in a similar robbery in August 2024.

Another jewelry store in the same mall, Michael Hill Jewellers, was also violently robbed just a few weeks ago on June 30.

In October 2024, thieves botched a robbery attempt at a downtown Barrie jewelry store, leaving the Bill Le Boeuf Jeweller store empty-handed after safety-related countermeasures were used to prevent the robbery from taking place.

BarrieToday will provide more information on this latest incident as details become available.
