A man suspected of fatally stabbing a 31-year-old British woman with a knife early Sunday morning in the southern German town of Rosenheim has been detained, authorities said.
The woman, 31, suffered “severe injuries” in the knife attack at the Rosenheim train station just before 1am and died in a hospital nearby.
Federal police officers, called to the scene, detained the suspect right after the stabbing. Police identified him as a 27-year-old German man from the nearby county of Fürstenfeldbruck.
The background and motive are being looked at as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, the force said in a statement.
It added that “under the direction of the Traunstein Public Prosecutor’s Office, Rosenheim branch, an investigation is under way on suspicion of homicide”.
The names of the victim and suspect have not been released.
Officers are asking for any witnesses who may have seen “an argument or physical altercation” at the Rosenheim train station in the early hours to come forward.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Germany and are in touch with the local authorities.”
