Donegal Town and the wider community of Inver have been numbed by the sudden death of a local teenager, Dylan Ward.

Dylan, a third year student of Abbey Vocational School, lost his life after sustaining serious injuries in an incident in Inver on Monday night. He was airlifted to Sligo University Hospital where he passed away.

The cherished son of Fiona and Daniel, and beloved brother to Leah, Dylan was a friend to many at his school and local sports clubs.

Tributes to the young sportsman honour his energy and talent.

Four Masters GAA club said: “Dylan was a great teammate with a fantastic attitude towards training and games. He was an integral part of our All Ireland Feile shield winning team at the end of June this year, and he will be sorely missed by his fellow players and coaches alike.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Ward & Murray families and all who mourn his loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.”

Donegal Town FC, where Dylan played for the U16s, highlighted his “infectious energy and bright spirit, both on and off the football field”.

Dylan was also a former player with the Donegal Town Rugby Club, which also expressed heartfelt sympathies to Dylan’s family, friends, and all who mourn his loss.

Dylan attended primary school at Scoil an Linbh Íosa, Killymard. The school said he will be “fondly remembered and sadly missed” as it plans to open tomorrow, Wednesday, from 10am until 12 noon with staff available to support anyone who wishes to drop by.

Dylan’s current school, Abbey VS, opened today to support students and will also be open from 10am-2pm on Wednesday for any students and staff who wish to visit.
