A law enforcement source says at least one civilian is dead after at least six people, including two police officers, were shot in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon amid an active shooter situation.
One officer was shot in the stomach, and another was shot in the leg, a city hall source said. A source close to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS confirmed one officer is in surgery as of 5:39 p.m., adding the other officer received non-life-threatening injuries.
The source said the incident began when Minneapolis police were called to an apartment building near 15 East Grant Street. When officers entered the building, a shooter opened fire on them.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the FBI is responding to the shooting, saying, “FBI is aware of the shooting in Minneapolis involving law enforcement and our personnel are responding — we will offer any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities.”
People are being asked to avoid the area of 12th Street to Franklin Avenue and Hennepin Avenue to Third Avenue South.
The Hyatt Regency hotel is on lockdown at this time.

Governor Walz said state officials are working to investigate the shooting, saying, “My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement, and we will share more information as it becomes available.”
Amy Klobuchar said she has spoken with Minneapolis Mayor Frey, stating, “I just spoke with the Mayor about the horrific shootings with multiple victims in downtown Minneapolis. Please avoid the area as law enforcement works to secure the scene. My prayers are with the victims and their loved ones. Thank you to our courageous law enforcement.”
Lisa Demuth also released a statement, saying, “I am aware of reports regarding a shooting in downtown Minneapolis. I am praying for the victims of this heinous crime, and I’m incredibly thankful for the massive response of our brave law enforcement officers.”
As of 5:30 p.m., ATF agents, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office officials, Minneapolis police officers and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) officials were all at the scene.
Metro Transit has canceled the northbound Route 10 trip departing Leamington Ramp and Lower Gate 7.
