Law enforcement says two people are dead after at least six people, including two police officers, were shot in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon. A source confirmed the suspect died by suicide.
A source told KSTP that Minneapolis officers were called to the apartment earlier Wednesday for a disturbance involving the same suspect. They say he was evicted from the apartment today.

A city hall source told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS one officer was shot in the stomach, and another was shot in the leg. The officer who was shot in the stomach was in surgery but in stable condition as of 6:45 p.m. The other officer who was shot received non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
What we know
Around 4:36 p.m., officers were called to the Loring Tower apartment building near 15 East Grant Street after it was reported someone was shot, according to a spokesperson with the Minneapolis Police Department.
The first officers entered the apartment building around 4:39 p.m. and saw multiple victims on the ground in addition to hearing gunfire from the upper levels of the building.
As officers followed the sound of gunfire to an upper floor, visibility from the haze became limited, and two officers were shot while another was injured.

BCA agents and crime scene personnel are investigating a use-of-force incident that occurred this afternoon in Minneapolis on E. Grant Street.

Four people were found suffering from gunshot wounds; one person died at the apartment building and another died at the hospital, MPD said. The two others who were injured are currently in the hospital.
It’s unclear how the third officer was injured, but Minneapolis Police Interim Chief Bill Peterson said he expects them to make a full recovery.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude and my pride in the officers who responded without hesitation and heroically placed themselves between a violent shooter and those he intended to harm. Their bravery is undeniable, and we owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude,” Minneapolis Police Interim Chief Bill Peterson said.
A witness told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the shooting took place in an elevator in the apartment complex.
As of 5:30 p.m., ATF agents, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office officials, Minneapolis police officers and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) officials were all at the scene.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS callers first reported the situation at around 4:50 p.m. near the area of Nicollet Avenue and East Grant Street, near multiple apartment buildings and the Minneapolis Convention Center.
