Witnesses have identified the suspect in the deadly downtown Minneapolis shooting as 35-year-old Carlton Johnson II.
Court records show that the Loring Tower building’s management company was in the process of evicting Johnson from his 9th-floor unit, and a hearing was scheduled for Sept. 11 in the eviction case.

According to the complaint filed by the management company, Johnson’s lease was supposed to be terminated in June after he assaulted another resident, openly displayed a firearm, and threatened to kill someone.
In fact, 5 INVESTIGATES found six instances of Johnson disturbing residents dating back to January. However, he was given a second chance under the condition that he would conceal his firearm on the premises.
It’s unclear what caused the company to officially evict Johnson later that month.

As previously reported, Minneapolis police were called to the building on a report of an active shooter around 4:46 p.m.
Four people were found suffering from gunshot wounds; one person died at the apartment building and another died at the hospital, MPD said. Two officers and two more civilians were also shot and injured and were brought to the hospital.
