ROANOKE, Va. – The Roanoke Police Department announced Thursday that it was investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Windsor Road Southwest Thursday evening.
According to officials, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 3500 block of Windsor Road SW at 5:27 p.m.
When officers arrived on scene, they found an individual suffering from a gunshot wound. Roanoke Fire-EMS personnel pronounced the individual dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the incident stemmed from an altercation that began while the involved parties were driving in the area and later escalated into a confrontation after the vehicles stopped.
Officers detained the other individual involved in the incident, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. RPD said that the individual was later interviewed by detectives. Following the interview, detectives consulted with the Roanoke City Commonwealth’s Attorney regarding the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the facts and evidence surrounding the incident will be presented to a future Roanoke City Grand Jury for consideration of any appropriate charges, officials said.
