A worker in northeast B.C. is dead after an incident at a gas plant last month.
Tourmaline Oil says the incident took place on Aug. 27 near its Aitken gas plant — more than 120 kilometres northwest of Fort St. John — when a third party contractor was killed while performing a routine water transfer.
According to its website, Tourmaline Oil is the largest natural gas producer in Canada.
Tourmaline says RCMP and WorkSafeBC were immediately notified about the incident.
“The safety of everyone working on our sites is our highest priority. We are undertaking a full investigation and working in collaboration with WorkSafeBC throughout this process,” notes the statement.
“Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends, and coworkers during this incredibly difficult time.”
It’s the second death at a Tourmaline facility, with a worker killed at its Gundy gas plant in April 2025, roughly 150 kilometres north of Fort St. John.
WorkSafeBC says an investigation has been launched into the Aug. 27 incident.
“The purpose of our investigation is to identify and understand the occupational health and safety factors that contributed to the incident, so that similar incidents can be prevented in the future,” it stated by email.
“We are not able to provide any additional details while the investigation is underway.”
