SPAR Hungary has invested €6.8 million in its logistics operations, comprising €1.76 million in upgrades to its logistics centre in Üllő and €5.04 million in a new transhipment hub in Budapest.

The Budapest hub aims to improve the efficiency of store supply within the Hungarian capital, the company added.

The Üllő project included a new 410 square-metre transport complex with offices, a driver lounge, changing rooms, and a 150-space car park, designed to improve working conditions for its 150 transport team members.

SPAR Hungary employs around 1,800 people in logistics, including 250 drivers, focusing on freight management, staff coordination, and supply system improvements.

The new Budapest transhipment hub, which opened in 2025, is a key part of SPAR Hungary’s strategy to enhance efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of its logistics.

Since summer 2024, WSZL, Waberer’s Group’s Hungarian logistics arm, has been delivering goods to SPAR stores in Budapest, with 10 trucks making 1,000-1,100 deliveries per month, moving approximately 15,000 pallets.

SPAR Hungary works with seven haulage subcontractors, utilising 90 vehicles daily. Additionally, it operates its fleet of 115 refrigerated trailers, which will continue to expand in 2025.

Certifications

Both of SPAR Hungary’s logistics centres in Bicske and Üllő have been re-certified at a ‘High level’ by Quality Austria, scoring 97.84%.

SPAR Hungary has also received the IFS Logistics certificate for the 12th time, highlighting its commitment to safety and quality in its logistics operations.

Márk Maczelka, head of communications at SPAR Hungary, commented, “For our retail chain, which operates 652 stores across the country, professional logistics is a daily challenge. It ensures that our products reach SPAR and INTERSPAR stores on time and in top quality.”
