Love Harry Enten and his numbers on CNN. He just gave us this, and I want more people to enjoy it. Happy Labor Day weekend!

Big thanks, too, to CNN for having this guy at their network!

And because so many people appreciate getting takeaways, because they either can’t watch videos, or because they don’t like to, here’s the list, from 10 to 1, like in a Casey Kasem countdown!

Enten also compares the numbers today to approximately where the felon was at this time in 2018, before those midterms. He’s organized by the difference between now and then. Note one or two items were not polled back in 2018.

10. Immigration! Now down to -17% net approval. Was -11% in July 2018, but it was a positive issue for him in the 2024 election (+14 compared to Biden/Harris). Seems that the American people like tough immigration talk, but they don’t like tough immigration reality.

9. Trade & tariffs! Now down to -25% net approval. Was -13% in 2018. Note that after the 2024 election, Americans slightly favored tariffs, but now we mostly hate them (I think people didn’t realize how they work).

8. Health care! Now down to -31% net approval. Was -18% in 2018. Enten points out that, even though we’re always talking about gas prices, health care is the top financial concern for Americans.

7. Foreign policy! Now down to -26%, was about -13% in 2018, probably mostly due to Iran and Russia. Note that, relative to Biden and Harris, the felon was +10 just before the 2024 election. Americans didn’t like Biden’s Middle East policy, but the felon made it worse

6. Taxes! Now down to -25%, was about -10% in 2018. Note this is an issue where the GOP typically does well. Enten does not provide a relative to Biden/Harris poll just before the election, and not so much analysis, either. My sense is that this may be driven a little by tariffs (although I expect not everyone realizes that tariffs are taxes) and also by the affordability crisis.

5. Corruption! Now down to -31%, was about -13% in 2018. Americans are noticing that the felon made at least 2 billion during his second term. Yeah, I don’t understand why this is not -100%, but the felon’s buddies have bought a lot of the media.

4. Government spending! Now down to -34% net approval, was -12% in 2018. The cause is the one big beautiful bill, which added so much to the national debt.

3. Iran! Down to -36% net approval, was -9% in 2018. Yeah, pretty much everyone hates that war (I’m surprised it was even polled in 2018). Why do people hate the war? Not worth the cost (75%). Hasn’t achieved objectives (88%). (Note we don’t ever get 88% on anything)

2. JOBS! Down to -22% net approval, was actually +9% in 2018. People don’t like the economy. Also, in term 1, at this point, manufacturing jobs had increased in the US (+342K). Now, of course, down (-50K)

And, 1. It’s the Economy! Now at -33%, was also +9% in 2018. A 42 point drop. Why? Enten says it’s inflation, where the felon has a -50% net approval rating. Note there was no poll on this in 2018. Here it is with a screen shot.

Couldn’t find the other screen shot I wanted, but Enten says the felon’s net approval rating has been negative for 500 straight days.

So, hope this diary is like a virtual energy drink to help us all sprint to the midterms. Let’s work to make him even more unpopular. Let’s turn out the vote. Let’s make sure that the votes are counted. Let’s make sure our representatives get seated.

Wasn’t it nice of CNN to treat us to this?

Thanks so much for reading, and I look forward to reading your comments.

🐦‍⬛🐦🐦‍⬛I do a lot of other writing. Some offerings: the Crow Nickels (chronicles), about crows who want to save birdkind from extinction (Hunters of the  Feather). Popular mysteries based on Jane Austen’s novels, such as The Meryton Murders. Others based on history and Greek mythology, e.g., Clytemnestra: The Mother’s Blade, for those who want another look at the characters in The Odyssey. Newest offerings: Messing with the Myths — three books so far in this series (new one is Ragnarok & Roll). All titles also available through Kindle Unlimited.

We’ll get straight to the point: The financial hardships that Daily Kos is facing this year are tough.
