NOGALES, Ariz. (KVOA) – The U.S. government has restricted activities and travel in Nogales, Sonora, to essential movement during daylight hours only due to threat information.
The U.S. Consulate General in Nogales announced the restrictions Friday. The consulate is alerting U.S. citizens of the threat and change in security posture.
Sonora is designated as a Level 3 area under the U.S. Travel Advisory, meaning travelers should reconsider travel to the region. The consulate is urging U.S. citizens to exercise increased caution and be aware of their surroundings.
In the event of an incident, people should seek shelter and notify friends and family of their safety. The consulate also advises following instructions from Mexican law enforcement and monitoring local media for updates.
The restrictions remain in effect until further notice.
