Four people died and four others were injured following a two-vehicle collision near Winnipeg Beach Sunday evening.
Gimli RCMP responded to the crash at approximately 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 8 and Highway 229.
According to police, the collision occurred when a vehicle travelling west on Highway 229 was struck while crossing Highway 8 by a southbound van. The intersection has stop signs for westbound and eastbound traffic. Both vehicles went into the southwest ditch, with one vehicle rolling onto its roof.
Four people inside the westbound vehicle died at the scene. They have been identified as an 18-year-old woman from Winnipeg, who was the driver; an 18-year-old man from Gimli; an 18-year-old woman from Sandy Hook; and a 17-year-old boy from Ear Falls, Ontario.
Four people from Winnipeg inside the van, driven by a 49-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. The group, which also included an adult woman and two children, was taken by ambulance to Winnipeg for treatment.
RCMP continue to investigate.
