The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the deaths of a man and woman in a collision after fleeing Ontario Provincial Police in South Frontenac early this morning.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

Shortly after midnight on Sept. 7, 2026, an officer approached a male driver in a parked vehicle after police received a call about a suspicious car later found to have been stolen. The man fled and was involved in a single motor vehicle collision a short time later on Bedford Road, near Salmon Lake Road.

The male driver and a female passenger were located deceased at the scene. The individuals have yet to be identified.

Three investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.

Bedford Road in South Frontenac is currently closed between Mason Lane and Lady Bush Lane, as the on-scene investigation continues.
