Lewis Brunt was having a scan on an injured hamstring as Steven Schumacher conducted his pre-match press conference at Lostock.

And the Bolton boss confirmed that Akin Famewo has also joined the injured list, coming off at Millwall with a similar issue.

At time of writing it is not known whether a three-match ban for midfielder Josh Sheehan will be upheld after the club appealed referee Will Finnie’s decision at The Den.

“We know Lewis Brunt is out,” said the head coach, who also has Luca Stephenson unavailable for the game. “He came in this morning and said there was some soreness in his hamstring, so it might be a little more serious, but we will wait to see what the scan says.

“I don’t know for sure on Akin but he is a doubt because it’s unlikely if he’s still feeling something today that we’re going to risk him, especially when we’ve got Max (Conway) to play, so it’s not necessary.

“We’re going to be forced into making a couple of changes, we’ll see what happens with Josh Sheehan.

“Then we have to look at other things around it, have we got the team selection right? Are we energised enough in the fourth game in 10 days to be able to go and put in a performance against West Ham to try and get us a result?”

Wanderers host Cardiff City at home in a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, with Schumacher admitting he may also take the proximity of that game into consideration when he names his side against the Hammers.

New loan signing Thelonious Bair made his debut off the bench at Millwall, and the Bolton boss is looking forward to seeing more of him over the coming weeks.

“He looks like a player who is quick, he’s physically strong, he’s got a really good attitude, he’s a really nice lad, and I am really enjoying working with him so far,” Schumacher said.

“When I met him in the summer, he impressed us.”

“So, we’ve got no qualms about his physical attributes, it’s just, again, time to pick the right moment for when it’s the right opportunity to stick him in.

“Now he gives us another option, another physical presence that’s a bit different to Sam (Dalby), and obviously we’ve got Ryan (Hardie) as well, who was unfortunate as well, he came on the pitch on Saturday and pretty much straight away were down to 10 men.

“We didn’t really get to see the best of him from an attacking point either, but we’ll get there, there’s no rush, we’re five games in and there’s no panic.”
