Two North Carolina Central University students were injured Sunday night when someone fired shots from a passing vehicle near campus.
According to Durham police, the victims were in the area of Concord and Dupree Streets when the shots were fired.
Both students recieved medical treatment for serious injuries and have been released from the hospital under the care of their families, according to a press release from the college.
No arrests have been made.
Video from the WRAL Breaking News Tracker captured after midnight on Sunday showed several officers at the scene and areas blocked off with yellow tape. Forensics officers were also seen processing the scene, where dozens of evidence markers had been placed.
North Carolina Central University police shared an email update with students, faculty, and staff on Monday. The email read in part:
I want to be straightforward. This kind of news is unsettling, and it is right to be concerned about the well-being of our Eagle family and our neighbors. Please know that the safety of every student, faculty, and staff member remains my top priority. In response, I have directed increased patrols on and around campus, and our officers remain visible and available to you around the clock.
