This has to be some of the worst luck to ever come from Nicolas Cage’s real-estate portfolio, and this is a man who once bought a haunted mansion that put a curse on him. On Tuesday, September 8, a massive, 30-by-30-foot sinkhole opened directly in front of a Malibu oceanfront home reportedly belonging to Cage, swallowing his driveway whole. Los Angeles’s KTLA News reported from the scene of this biblical misfortune, saying that Cage was not staying there when firefighters responded to a gas-main break and found a giant gaping pit where the Face/Off actor’s driveway once was, stopping inches from his garage. This case of coastal erosion comes as an after-effect of Hurricane Marie, which did not make landfall but still caused massive waves and flooding in Southern California over Labor Day Weekend.
This hole comes days after Prime Video left a Spider-Noir-size hole in Cage’s schedule, canceling his superhero spinoff series after one season. “For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, Pop Art Spider-Man,” Cage told Deadline on Sunday. “Onwards, upwards, inwards.” He probably shouldn’t have said “inwards.”
