GRESHAM Ore. (KPTV) – A child is dead after being hit by an SUV at a residential parking lot near East Burnside in Gresham on Thursday morning, according to police.
Just after 11:30 a.m., officers with the Gresham Police Department were sent to East Burnside Street near Northeast 181st Avenue after the report of a crash.

According to police, an SUV was pulling into the parking lot when it hit a young child, who died at the scene.
Gresham police told FOX 12 that they do not believe speed or impairment were factors, and said the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating.
Instead, police say they’re looking into how the layout of the lot might have led up to the crash.
Neighbors say the driveway drops steeply down and they have long considered it dangerous.
“It’s like a steep hill. It’s not a straight go in driveway so you kind of take a dip like a roller coaster,” said neighbor Leria Smith. “It’s sad. It broke my heart, especially being a kid.”
The westbound lanes of East Burnside are closed between Northeast 176th Avenue and Northeast 181st Avenue, and will likely remain closed for several hours.
