Just before Rosh Hashanah began, shopping centers, supermarket chains and stores across the country filled with thousands of Israelis making their final preparations for the holiday.

Data from Shva, which operates Israel’s national payment system for debit and credit cards, points to another increase in consumer spending compared with last year.

Between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m., Israelis spent more than 459 million shekels using credit cards, an increase of 2.7% compared with the eve of Rosh Hashanah last year, when spending totaled approximately 446.8 million shekels.

Spending has also continued to rise compared with previous years. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah in 2024, spending during the same hours totaled approximately 422.9 million shekels, while on the eve of Rosh Hashanah in 2023, before the outbreak of the Iron Swords War, purchases totaled just 378.4 million shekels.

The peak hour came shortly before noon. At 10:56 a.m., more than 18,000 transactions were processed in just one minute, totaling over 3.44 million shekels.
