Police found human remains at the home of Gregory Groom, 22, whose girlfriend Kylee Monteiro, 18, went missing Aug. 7.

Human remains consistent with a missing pregnant teenager from Rehoboth were recovered during a search of her boyfriend’s home, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn told reporters Tuesday night.
Gregory Groom, 22, will be charged with the murder of Kylee Monteiro, 18, who went missing Aug. 7, Quinn said.
Groom reported Monteiro, who was eleven weeks pregnant, missing on Aug. 7. She was last seen at his home on County Street in Rehoboth, the DA said.
Groom and Monteiro were dating, Quinn confirmed.
Massachusetts State Police obtained a search warrant for Groom’s home and began investigating the property Tuesday afternoon, Quinn said.
The remains found on Groom’s property are consistent with Monteiro, although prosecutors are waiting for confirmation from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, Quinn said.
An excavator and other construction equipment were brought to Groom’s home to aid the search Tuesday night, according to videos posted on social media.
Sounds of heavy machinery were heard near Groom’s house, a Boston25 News reporter on the scene posted on X. Other videos show Monteiro’s friends and family praying and singing while waiting for the DA’s press conference.
“I’m scared, I’m really scared,” Faith Monteiro told WCVB Tuesday afternoon. “I don’t know if they have her, but some part of me feels like they do.”
Monteiro was last seen at Groom’s house Aug. 6, and there were domestic issues involved, her sister, Kitty Monteiro, posted on Facebook.
Groom was charged Tuesday afternoon with aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and intimidation of a witness. He allegedly committed those offenses against Kylee Monteiro on Aug. 6, Quinn said in a press release.
Groom is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Taunton District Court, according to the DA.
Monteiro’s family started a GoFundMe to assist in finding her.
“Once she is located, the remaining donations will either go directly to Kylee to help her financially while she deals with this unimaginable trauma or for funeral arrangements if need be,” the GoFundMe states.
