GARDA have arrested a man brandishing a knife while threatening members of the public in Newcastle West, Limerick Live has learned.
The shocking incident occurred on the town’s busy Maiden Street on Tuesday night. One local said the man, who is from Newcastle West, went “beserk”.

A garda spokesperson said officers responded to reports of a male threatening members of the public in Newcastle West on Tuesday, August 19 at approximately 9pm.
“No injuries have been reported at this time. The male, aged in his 30s, was arrested and conveyed to Newcastle West garda station.
“He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984,” said a garda spokesperson this Wednesday.
It is understood the accused man, who is known to gardai, entered a number of premises while in possession of a knife.
“Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.
Anybody who witnessed the alleged public order incidents, or who may have mobile phone or dash-cam footage of what took place are asked to make it available to investigating gardai.
