A man in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle crash in Cork City on Wednesday morning.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to the collision, which happened on the M8 (J18) road southbound, in Upper Riverstown, Glanmire at at approximately 6.50am.

Emergency services personnel were called to the scene and the man was subsequently brought by ambulance to Cork University Hospital (CUH). Gardaí have now confirmed the man was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

The road remains closed where the accident took place pending a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Investigating gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users with camera footage who were travelling in the area between 6.40am and 7.15am on Wednesday have been asked to make this footage available.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that investigations are ongoing
