3 dead, 1 injured after El Dorado Hills car crash, officials say
The El Dorado Hills Fire Department said the electric vehicle crashed and then caught fire Saturday night.
EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. —
Two women and a man were killed and a woman was hospitalized after a car crashed into a tree in El Dorado Hills on Saturday night.
The El Dorado Hills Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol said crews responded to the crash around 10:30 p.m. on westbound Serrano Parkway, west of Terracina Drive.
Officials say the crash damaged the lithium-ion battery in the electric car, causing the vehicle to catch fire. The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
CHP said two women – the driver and a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene following the fire. Another passenger, a 30-year-old man from Sacramento, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
A 28-year-old Sacramento woman was able to escape the car and was taken to an area hospital with major injuries, according to CHP.
The roadway was closed until 4:30 a.m. on Sunday and CHP is investigating.
