The suspect of a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Potomac Woods Plaza shopping center remains at large, according to Montgomery County Police spokesperson Degan Bartels.
Bartels told Bethesda Today on Monday morning that police are still searching for the suspect who shot and killed a man at the shopping center.
As of Monday morning, police have shared few details about the case, including the identity of the man who was shot. In a statement Sunday morning, police said they had no information about the suspect.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday, officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Seven Locks Road in Potomac, police said Sunday in the statement.
When first responders arrived at Potomac Woods Plaza, they found an adult man with “serious injuries” and began to provide medical aid, police said. Despite all efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The department’s Major Crimes Homicide Unit is investigating the case, police said.
More information about the incident and the identity of the victim will be released following notification of next of kin, according to police.
The Potomac Woods Plaza is home to businesses including Quincy’s Potomac Bar & Grille, Brooklyn’s Deli and Starbucks Coffee.
On Sunday morning, Fox 5 spoke to Charles Slaughter, general manager at Brooklyn’s Deli, who said that he believed that the incident stemmed from an argument at a bar in the shopping center that was showing a UFC fight.
Sunday’s shooting marks the second homicide in the county in September. On Thursday, a man died after he was shot in front of The Flats at Columbia Pike apartment complex in Silver Spring. County police identified the man as Rafael Jeremias Brewster, 32, of Beltsville.
