The suspect in a Plano murder investigation is dead after leading police on a chase in northern Denton County Monday morning.
According to Valley View Police, they were called at about 10 a.m. to assist in a chase in Denton County headed northbound on Interstate 35 toward Cooke County. They said they were told the chase involved a suspect wanted in connection with a murder investigation in Plano, and that a Texas State Trooper tried to stop the driver, but the driver fired at the trooper and tried to escape.
Plano Police told NBC 5 the driver crashed along I-35 between View and Chisam roads in northern Denton County, north of Sanger and south of Valley View.
Valley View Police said that after the driver crashed, officers quickly surrounded the vehicle and that there was a standoff. Valley View Police said “during the incident, the suspect vehicle caught fire” and that “the suspect was later confirmed deceased at the scene.”
Valley View Police did not say how the car caught fire or speculate about how the person died.
Texas Sky Ranger flew over the scene Monday afternoon and recorded video of a car destroyed by fire and scorched grass in the median.
The crash was reported just before 11 a.m. between exits 481 and 482 and had backed up northbound traffic about five miles to exit 477. The northbound lanes have since reopened.

Plano homicide under investigation
In Plano, police said officers were called to a shooting at a home on the 1100 block of Lakestream Drive just after 10 p.m. Sunday.
Plano Police said that when officers arrived, they went into the home and found a person deceased with multiple apparent gunshot wounds.
Police said Monday afternoon that the suspect and the victim were known to each other and that additional family members were inside the home at the time but were not harmed.
Police said the identity of the victim is being withheld until their entire family is notified of their death.
