The White House officially launched its own TikTok account on Tuesday amid uncertainty about whether the app’s parent company, Bytedance, would find a U.S. buyer before the September 17 deadline.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly extended the deadline for the TikTok ban after former President Joe Biden signed a law declaring that the popular social media app would cease to operate on January 19. The latest delay came in June, which kept the app operational despite bipartisan concern regarding Chinese ownership of the company.
While TikTok’s eventual fate remains unclear, the fact that the White House has created an account might signal that it is here to stay. As of Wednesday, the account boasts 101,900 followers and three posts.

In the first post, Trump can be heard saying, “Every day, I wake up determined to deliver a better life for the people all across this nation. I am your voice.” The caption reads, “America, we are BACK! What’s up, TikTok?” Karoline Leavitt told the Irish Star that the Trump administration was “committed to communicating the historic successes President Trump has delivered to the American people with as many audiences and platforms as possible.”
“The Trump administration is committed to communicating the historic successes President Trump has delivered to the American people with as many audiences and platforms as possible,” said Leavitt. “President Trump’s message dominated TikTok during his presidential campaign, and we’re excited to build upon those successes and communicate in a way no other administration has before.”

While TikTok does not operate in China, the Chinese government enjoys significant leverage over businesses under its jurisdiction. Lawmakers across the aisle have raised concerns that China could use its national security laws to obtain personal information about its U.S. users.

TikTok’s future remains clouded as the popular app has yet to find an American buyer. The app was briefly offline in January after President Biden signed the order, but President Trump brought it back after another order was signed, delaying the ban’s enforcement by 75 days.
In April, Trump once again extended the ban in hopes of allegedly using the app as a bargaining tool for sweeter relations with China. The president suggested he would give China “a little reduction in tariffs or something” as part of the deal to secure TikTok.

“My Administration has been working very hard on a Deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress,” Trump said on Truth Social. “The Deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days… We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the deal.”
