A Georgia mayor who made headlines because of his young age is now making headlines for losing the job in less than a year. The Stockbridge City Council has voted unanimously to oust 23-year-old Mayor Jayden Williams, citing improper spending on a city credit card and sexually explicit online exchanges with an 18-year-old high school student, reports NBC News. Williams was the youngest mayor ever elected in the city.
An outside law firm’s investigation found that he and the teen swapped nude photos while discussing the student’s possible involvement in a mentorship program. Williams acknowledged the exchanges but described such sharing as common among people his age. He also admitted using the city card for personal purchases, which he said was an honest mix-up and has since repaid. No criminal charges have been filed, and Fox 5 Atlanta reports that residents at a City Council meeting voiced support for Williams and suggested he should have received a reprimand rather than being removed.
