Sept. 20 (UPI) — U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly said Sunday he is thinking of “blowing up” all of Iran as he left the Camp David retreat a day early to return to the White House.
Fox News reporter Trey Yungst said Trump told him during a phone call that “very big things are going to be happening” soon.
Trump reportedly said Iran has three possible paths: Make a deal, he will choose “letting them rot economically,” or he will entirely wipe out the regime.
He’s in a “deciding mode,” Trump was quoted as saying.
“My question is: If and when do I blow the entire nation up?” Trump reportedly said. “They better behave.”
Trump’s remarks came a day after the U.S. State Department issued a security alert warning of unexpected escalation in the Middle East. It told Americans to be more vigilant and keep up on possible flight cancellations and airspace shutdowns.
Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian are due to be in New York this week for the United Nations General Assembly, which creates a possible opening for talks. Trump reportedly told Fox News that would “probably be open to” a meeting.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said if the country is attacked, “all bases and interests in the region will become targets of continuous, effective and painful attacks without any limitations or considerations.”
