NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — President Donald Trump will meet Monday with Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion ahead of the president’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting will mark the third face-to-face meeting between Trump and Mamdani since Mamdani met with the president in the Oval Office in February following his historic election victory. Before that, the two leaders held what was described as their first high-stakes meeting in November 2025.
Trump has been to Gracie Mansion at least twice before. In 2003, Trump attended former Mayor Giuliani’s wedding at Gracie Mansion. In 2007, Trump attended a book party for Rep. Charles Rangel. Both events were hosted by then-Mayor Bloomberg
Other presidents have also visited Gracie Mansion. In 1981, President Reagan visited then Mayor Koch to show his administration’s commitment to the Westway project on the West Side. President Kennedy visited in 1962, and President Truman in 1949 to commemorate the laying of the cornerstone of the United Nations.
During their first two meetings, Mamdani focused on infrastructure projects that would require federal funding-a point of agreement for both. In February, he promoted the Sunnyside Yard, an 180-acre train yard in Queens that could house thousands of apartments and would require at least $21 billion in federal grants.
Over the last few days, Mamdani has held private meetings with a handful of mayors from around the world and attended meetings of the U20 conference of mayors.
Regarding Monday’s meeting, a Mamdani spokesperson said, “The meeting will focus on issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers.”
The meeting will be closed to the press, according to the president’s schedule.

The meeting comes as New York City hosts a busy week of international events surrounding the U.N. General Assembly. Representatives from countries around the world are gathering in the city, prompting heightened security measures and drawing global attention.
Over the weekend, Mamdani welcomed mayors from around the world for the Urban 20 Summit. The mayor also took attendees on a double-decker sightseeing bus tour. Among those attending were Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and mayors from Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
Trump’s New York itinerary is also expected to include a meeting with the president of France and attendance at a Republican National Committee reception fundraiser. The event carries a price tag of $150,000 per couple to attend.
The Gracie Mansion meeting is one of several high-profile events taking place in New York City this week as world leaders gather for the United Nations General Assembly.
