The left’s mistakes last time cost the country dearly; any misstep this time around could be fatal. Opposition party leaders must unite behind Eisenkot and prevent disaster
Four years ago, an uncoordinated and divided left ran for Knesset. The combination of a lack of leadership, inflated egos and personal rivalries led to Meretz not making it into the Knesset at all, while Labor won a historic low of just four seats. The right-wing religious bloc, in contrast, entered the election in an effective deployment under the close supervision of its leader, Benjamin Netanyahu. And that election resulted in the right winning by a narrow margin that nevertheless gave it a stable Knesset majority.
