One night in early 2026, at around 3 A.M., Israeli troops broke into the al-Bashir family’s home in Quneitra province in southern Syria. They were looking for Zaid al-Bashir, a poultry farm worker. The soldiers searched the house and broke things, but Zaid was not home. Instead, they arrested his 16-year-old brother, Ali. They told the family that Zaid would have to turn himself in to secure his younger brother’s release. Afraid of being detained, Zaid refused. Eight months have passed, and the family still has no information about Ali. The Syrian teenager apparently remains in detention in Israel.
