MADISON, Wis. — Madison police arrested two people at an unsanctioned fraternity on Wednesday night.
Officers were dispatched to the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, located along the 100 block of Langdon Street around 8:20 p.m. Police received an anonymous tip about this event.
Police said inside the basement of the residence, and officers found around 30 other partially clothed males covered in food, condiments and other liquids. The vast majority of those in attendance were 18-year-olds according to police, and several of these men had visible injuries consistent with being physically assaulted. A thermostat in the room was set to 81 degrees creating hot and humid conditions.
Officers declared the event unlawful and everyone was escorted outside, according to police, and all pledges were checked by officers for incapacitation and injuries.
Police said Alpha Epsilon Pi is an unrecognized and unaccredited student organization, having been terminated by UW-Madison more than a decade ago. The president and vice president of the fraternity were present and spoke to responding officers, according to police.
Two 20-year-old men were arrested for hazing and disorderly conduct and taken to the Dane County Jail.

In a statement, UW-Madison said its Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards will investigate students implicated in the incident, and those found to have violated laws, regulations or university policies could face sanctions.
The university said that, because the Alpha Epsilon Pi is still recognized by its national organization, it is still legally allowed to operate.
“The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life met with national Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity (AEPi) officials today to review the incident and discuss follow-up actions,” the university said. “The national chapter is cooperating with university efforts.”
Alpha Epsilon Pi said it takes allegations involving its Pi Chapter very seriously.
“We will cooperate fully with the authorities investigating this matter. Any member found responsible for criminal conduct in this matter will be expelled from AEPi, and we will support prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”
The chapter said there is no place for hazing in AEPi.
“Hazing is a betrayal of everything our fraternity stands for.” “We educate our members about their responsibility to ‘Be Your Brothers’ Keeper.’ This is not an optional value.” “It is a fundamental expectation of membership. Anyone who engages in hazing forfeits the privilege of being an AEPi brother.”
