Lac du Bonnet RCMP have recovered several prizes that were stolen from organizers of the upcoming Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby.
RCMP began investigating the theft on September 11 after more than $20,000 worth of prizes collected for the winter ice fishing derby were reported stolen.
On Wednesday, September 23, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Lac du Bonnet.
During the search, officers recovered several of the stolen prizes, along with other items believed to have been stolen recently in the area.
A male suspect was also arrested at the residence.
Charges laid
Alexander Brincheski, 37, of Lac du Bonnet, is charged with:
Possession of stolen property over $5,000
Possession of stolen property under $5,000 — two counts
Theft under $5,000
Brincheski remains in custody.
The RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.

Derby committee thanks RCMP
The Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby committee released a statement on September 24 thanking police for their work following the theft.
The committee says it is grateful to hear that several of the stolen prizes have been recovered, as well as other items believed to have been stolen recently in the area.
They say that the RCMP’s efforts are appreciated by the derby organizers and the community.
The organizers also thanked Lac du Bonnet RCMP for their continued work to keep the community safe.
