Liverpool star Jeremie Frimpong has suffered an injury setback just days after making his Premier League debut, according to The Times journalist Paul Joyce – with the Dutchman set to be ruled out of action until the end of September’s international break with a hamstring injury.
Frimpong only joined Liverpool earlier in the summer transfer window as their first signing following the end of the campaign, in which they won the Premier League under the former Feyenoord boss in his debut season – and started at right-back in the league’s curtain-raiser fixture against Bournemouth on Friday, impressing as the Reds got off to a good start with a 4-2 win over the Cherries.

However, he was replaced by Japanese star Wataru Endo on the hour, bringing his debut to an end prematurely as the Reds eventually found a win – despite Bournemouth equalising from two goals down within 16 minutes of Frimpong heading off.
And he will now be out of contention for the next two-to-three weeks, Joyce has posted on X (formerly Twitter) – giving Slot a selection headache already. The Reds gaffer said:
“The medical team was completely right about Jeremie to take him off because he’s out until the end of the international break. We felt he had an issue in his hamstring, and the medical team were right. A good call from them, as otherwise, he could have been out for even longer.”
Conor Bradley would be the go-to replacement for Frimpong as right-back, but he was out of the game against Andoni Iraola’s men with a knock, leading to Endo coming on in his place.
Joe Gomez could also be an option for their next two Premier League games against Newcastle United and Arsenal, in what is a huge blow for the Reds, though he is currently the club’s backup centre-back and any injury to him would be a cruel blow for Slot, who is aiming to retain the top-flight title with as few bumps in the road as he can manage.
The Newcastle fixture, especially as it is being held at St. James’ Park, will carry a lot of needle thanks to the Alexander Isak saga. The striker wants to move from Tyneside to Merseyside before the window slams shut, refusing to participate in the Magpies’ campaign as a result – and so Slot will want to avoid anyone else being injured in a feisty clash that could have massive ramifications for the rest of their season, as well as Isak’s future.
