Captain Andy Robertson says Scotland “want to learn on the job” as they attempt to implement new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli’s “new ideas” for the first time in Saturday’s Nations League opener in Slovenia.
Pocognoli replaced Steve Clarke, who left after the Scots’ World Cup exit in June, and has already freshened the squad up with eight uncapped players for his first test in the dugout at the Stozice Arena, live on BBC One.
“I suppose it will be a learning curve for us but one that we want to learn on the job,” Tottenham Hotspur left-back Robertson said.
“We still demand results and we still expect results and so it’s up to us to try to produce them.”
After this Group B1 opener, Scotland welcome Switzerland to Hampden Park on Tuesday, travel to North Macedonia next Saturday and then host the Slovenes on Tuesday, 6 October.
Pocognoli, who revealed he “knows my team”, is “excited and curious” as to how his team play and hinted that debuts may be handed out in the first of four games in 11 days.
“A good attitude, a fighting spirit and a desire to apply what we worked on during the week,” is what the Belgian hopes to see.
“I want them to stick with the plan and to be committed. But also to really be like brothers and, maybe, some of the new lads will play for the first time.”
