Alexander Isak was on target again in the international break, but Liverpool may be concerned after hearing about Sweden boss Graham Potter’s plans for the striker

Alexander Isak continued his fine start to the season as he scored in Sweden’s opening Nations League win over Romania on Friday.
The Liverpool striker played the full 90 minutes and opened the scoring as his country came out 2-1 winners in Stockholm, with Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres also on the scoresheet for Graham Potter’s side.
The goal continues what has been a vastly improved start to the season for Isak compared to his first year at Liverpool. The 27-year-old has already equaled his overall tally of goals for the Reds from the 2025/26 campaign, having struck four times in the Premier League so far, and is already closing in on the same amount of starts.
There was more evidence of a rejuvenated Isak as he supplied a confident first-time finish in the 20th minute against Romania. Much like his opening goal against Ipswich, the goalkeeper managed to get a hand on the strike, but couldn’t had no answer to the speed and power in which Isak took his effort.
Having made a winning start to the international break, Sweden now faces three more games before Isak can report back to Anfield.
Poland is the next visitor to Scandinavia on September 28, before Isak and his teammates head to Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 2 and the away game in Romania on October 5.

Having endured an injury-ravaged first season on Merseyside, Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola may well hope to see Isak being given a rest at some point over the next couple of weeks, although it doesn’t look as though he will get his wish.
Sweden boss Potter has already indicated he could start Isak in all four games during the break, and he won’t be dissuaded after seeing his latest performance.
“It’s not about rotating for the sake of rotating, as we want to win the games and try to play with our strongest team in every game,” Potter ahead of Friday’s game.

Liverpool.com says: It’s great to say Isak in such good form at the moment. We just have to keep our fingers crossed that he isn’t overworked during this international break.
He has looked much, much fitter so far this season, but even so, four games in 11 days is a lot to ask of a player who is coming off the back of an injury-hit campaign.
