Araqchi made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on Friday on the sidelines of the 81st annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Araqchi also briefed his Saudi counterpart on the understanding reached between Iran and Oman regarding safe maritime routes for shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed Iran’s determination to strengthen trust, particularly through security mechanisms based on interaction among regional countries.
He expressed hope that all influential regional parties would cooperate in this regard, taking into consideration the “unfortunate experience” of the past seven months and the use by the US and the Israeli regime of the territory and facilities of some regional parties to prepare for and carry out military aggression against Iran.
The two foreign ministers also discussed Tehran-Riyadh bilateral relations and exchanged views on the importance of joint efforts to further develop ties in areas of mutual interest.
