Hello everyone and sorry for being so late with this week’s Fight Streak post. My kid was home sick this week, so that made everything more difficult. They are back at school today, though!
Honestly, it’s been brutal having to wait so long to take my victory lap FOR PICKING SEAN SHARAF!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
OK, now that’s out of my system. Sadly, not enough people zagged for me to really benefit from my zigging. Gable broke a few streaks, though, including that of our leader The Smokin Salmon who falls just short of getting that 10 fight streak.
Weird stuff happens when folks get around that mark. Only one person has ever managed to get beyond 10. That was Action Man, who went down at 11.
I want to shout out Whipcreamfajita for this post last week. It made me laugh, even if being called ‘Timmy’ usually makes me cringe.
Timmy, lad, I’m going to go for the low hanging fruit one more time before I start putting my 20+ years to the test. Give me Robbie D to smash tuivasa. That’s the kind of downslide that can only be recovered on the regional scene. There is something to be said for momentum and Tai has absolutely none of it. Tbh, I think Tuivasa would surpass BJs legendary losing streak if given the opportunity. RD gets it done inside of the first round. Ima put 150 on it for a small return coz tai is absolutely cooked. Watch me go Timmy boy.. watch me go.

I’ll take Elves Brener. I like his style. I’m not sold on Josiah Harrell. And I’m also currently painting up a High Elves battle march force (iykyk).
UFC is back in the warehouse for the first time since early August. And META APEX, this week, is host to an interesting Bantamweight fight, the latest The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Finale bouts and a slew of bouts featuring names only hardcore fans would recognize.
Raul Rosas Jr. vs. Raoni Barcelos pits youth versus experience, with both men looking to stretch win streaks. Rosas Jr. had a dull win over Rob Font in his last contest, while Barcelos is coming off a an upset over Montel Jackson. With the top of Bantamweight solidified right now, with two or three contenders all but locked in, neither Rosas Jr. nor Barcelos will get a big push up the ladder with a win.
It’s still worth seeing them fight, though.
The co-main event, after some late week shuffling, is Norma Dumont vs. Ailin Perez. Perez has one of the better winning streaks in women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) right now. She’ll pit her wrestling against Dumont’s striking (which famously sliced apart Irene Aldana in The Sphere).
TUF finals include Ilimbek Akylbek Uulu vs. Mehmmedeli Osmanli and Tina Black vs. Melissa Amaya. Luis Hernandez vs. Sedriques Dumas completes the main card, with Hernandez coming off Contender Series in a hurry to replace Micky Gall.
The featured “Prelims” undercard bout is Rinya Nakamura vs. Brady Hiestand. Rodolfo Vieira vs. Robert Bryczek and Rodolfo Bellato vs. Christian Edwards are also on the undercard.

UFC VEGAS 121 PLAY-BY-PLAY UPDATES
Raul Rosas Jr. vs. Raoni Barcelos
Round 1: Rosas is very busy to start, throwing combos and a calf kick. Barcelos covers up well, though. Rosas keeps coming forwards, throwing. Barcelos goes down, seemingly off a slip and gets up. Barcelos goes for a single leg and Rosas lands a number of short punches. Barcelos throws him down, but Rosas pops right up. He lands a big left hook. Barcelos is bloodied up already. Barcelos throws to the body. He then throws high and level changes for a takedown. Rosas punches off his back and throws up his legs for an armbar. Barcelos backs off and that gives Rosas space to stand. Barcelos lands some nice shuts. His left eye is starting to swell shut, though. He throws a big elbow against the fence. Then lands a good one-two. Barcelos lands another hard punch to the body.
Round 2: Barcelos lands some nice combos early on. Rosas lands another hard calf kick. Barcelos keeps targeting the body. Rosas responds with a good hook over the top. Barcelos gets a single leg and tries to take the back. Rosas gets up quickly, though. Rosas is starting to wear some damage. Rosas wobbles Barcelos with a god straight right. Barcelos shoots, but can’t get a takedown. Rosas tries to land more, but Barcelos covers, hits the body, goes high and then shoots and gets the takedown. Rosas stands and gets to the fence. Barcelos kicks out Rosas’ feet. Rosas gets up and they dirty box on the fence. Barcelos lands the best shots. He rips the body again. Rosas responds with some nice jabs. Barcelos stings Rosas again at the end of the round. What a fight!
Round 3: Barcelos keeps landing to the body. He goes for a takedown, but abandons it and misses on a high kick. Barcelos throws down Rosas and gets his back close to the fence. He gets both hooks in and looks for the rear naked choke. Rosas throws punches over his shoulder and then spins to get on top. Rosas lands good ground and pound. Barcelos scrambles to his feet. His face looks terrible. He shoots and takes Rosas to the fence. Barcelos isn’t slowing down, though. He lands some big right hands that have Rosas bleeding heavily. Rosas lays in a nice straight left. Barcelos gets Rosas down with a beautiful trip. He takes the back. Rosas rolls out of trouble and gets to his feet. It’s a tough round to score, but I’m giving it to Barcelos.
Round 4: Barcelos lands that straight punch to the body again, and again. He traps Rosas on the fence and throws some big punches upstairs. Rosas is able to circle off. Barcelos gets Rosas to the fence and then drags him down. He goes behind and lands some shots to the side of the head. Rosas stands, but Barcelos is still on his back. Rosas rolls and goes for a leg lock, but Barcelos sees it all the way. He gets onto Rosas’ back again and goes for the choke. Rosas looks very tired on bottom. Barcelos locks on the choke and squeezes. Rosas seems comfortable enough, though. Barcelos takes a break and then attacks again. Big round for Barceos.
Round 5: Rosas comes out of his corner with energy. He lands a jumping knee. Barcelos then lands a straight punch and level changes for the takedown. Rosas throws from the bottom and then rolls to his knees. He gets up and tries to pump up the crowd. He throws another jumping knee. and another. He then lands a hard one to the body. Barcelos wraps him up. Rosas turns him around and then takes him down. Barcelos is out! What happened? Barcelos is stiff. It looks like he was knocked out by one of the cage posts on the way down. That was bizarre and Barcelos looks very hurt.
Barcelos needs medical attention.

Norma Dumont vs. Ailin Perez
Round 1: Dumont takes the center and lands a big leg kick. Dumont reaches with a straight, but Perez catches her with a nice one-two. After some failed attempts Perez level changes and gets a double leg takedown in the center of the cage. Dumont gets half guard and Perez ties to pas to mount. Perez tried to posture up for ground and pound, but Dumont’s closed guard is making that tough.
Round 2: Perez lands a body kick and then shoots. She takes Dumont to the fence and tries to drag her down. Dumont stays up and Perez lands a knee. Dumont throws Perez down and lands in her full guard. Perez manages to work herself back up to her feet. Perez land a sidekick to the body. Dumont lands leg kicks. Dumont lands an uppercut that splits the guard. That’s her best strike of the fight so far. Dumont jabs at the body. Perez misses on some spinning attacks. Dumont shakes her head.
Round 3: Perez lands a one-two that freezes Dumont momentarily. Dumont shakes it off and marches forwards, though. They trade some low kicks. Both miss on a number of combo attempts. More leg kicks follow. Perez goes for a single leg, but Dumont blocks it. Perez holds her against the fence as we approach the one minute mark. They trade some knees in the clinch. The bell goes and both throw some cheap shots after the bell. They jaw at each other, too, after 15 minutes of very little action. I guess I give that to Perez.

Sedriques Dumas vs. Luis Fernandez
Round 1: Hernandez comes out swinging and ends up getting tied up with Dumas along the fence. Dumas tries some sort of suicide throw, but ends up in a guillotine. He makes it to his feet, but Hernandez keeps the choke on and starts to crank. Dumas taps and Fernandez starts moving around like a Chippendale.

Ilimbek Akylbek Uulu vs. Mehemmedeli Osmanli
Round 1: Osmanli bounces into the center and throws a high kick, which misses. He lands a straight right as Akylbek throws a leg kick. Osmanli lands a push kick. Akylbek shoots and gets an awkward takedown. Osmanli tries to roll but ends up on bottom.Osmanli explodes up. They trade and Akylbek goes down. Osmanli puts him out with a knee to the head. Akylbek is laid out and that was a very illegal knee from Osmanli. The fight gets called off, very justifiably. It would have been criminal to let Akylbek go back out there.

Melissa Amaya vs. Tina Black
Round 1: Black lands a nice jab early on. Amaya lands a one-two. Lots of sizing each other up in this bout so far, but not a lot of offense thrown. Amaya has a big wind up on her punches. Black just side-steps out the way of a big overhand attempt. Despite missing a lot, Amaya is the one moving forwards. Black lands a calf kick. And then a check hook. Amaya steps in and Black ducks and cracks her right on the chin. She goes down to one knee. She gets up bloodied and looking very hurt. Black chases her and lands a hook. Amaya is running. Black is trying to catch up, but she’s not throwing enough. Black gets her on the fence and lands more punches, but then gets hurt with a counter as the buzzer goes.
Round 2: Amaya blitzes forwards, but Black’s footwork allows her to step out of range. Black goes forwards with a one-two that sends Amaya back. Black goes down on a slip and Amaya charges to try and make her pay. Black is up quick, though, and they end up clinching on the fence. They trade knees and Black lands a big hook on the break. That wobbled Amaya. Black lands another right hook. Amaya is really wobbling around. Black closes in and lands a combo that sends her down and forces the ref to step in.

Brady Hiestand vs. Rinya Nakamura: Nakamura’s wrestling didn’t stack up to Hiestand’s jiu jitsu. Once Hiestand got into dominant positions on the ground he got deep on an anaconda choke and then, moments later, he got the rear naked choke for the win.

Rodolfo Vieira vs. Robert Bryczek: This wasn’t fun to watch. Vieira spend the fight either on top of Bryczek of pushing him into the fence. Bryczek did try and make something fun happened, when he had space, but this ended as a smothering decision win for Vieira.

Rodolfo Bellato vs. Christian Edwards: Edwards landed the last shot in a pretty scrappy (or sloppy) brawl. Edwards was consistently landing more volume, but he was getting hurt by Bellato’s power. That included when he got dropped in the first round. In the third, though, Edwards came out more aggressively and let fly with a hook that dropped Bellato. He then followed up for the TKO win.

Elves Brener vs. Josiah Harrell: Brener had Harrell confused by his stance switches and was able to tee off on his opponent from range. Harrell shot for takedowns and took big swings, but this was all Brener. He ended up face-planting Harrell with a right hook.

Montel Jackson vs. Ricky Simon: Jackson lived up to his ‘Quick’ nickname in this bout. His hands were far too fast for Simon. He tagged him often and knocked him down in the first round. in the second round his sniped Simon again and put him away.
Official decision: Montel Jackson def. Ricky Simon by TKO (punches), round 2 (2:39)
John Castaneda vs. Alatengheili: This was a close fight without too much to write home about. Alatengheili did a lot of head hunting, while Castaneda mixed things up more. Castaneda did the better job on the feet, but Alatengheili mounted a late wrestling attack to take the third round. I scored it for Castaneda, but some of those rounds were razor thin.
Official decision: Alatengheili def. John Castaneda by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
Yasmin Jauregui vs. Vanessa Demopoulos: Wow, Jauregui just lit up Demopoulos with landed about fifty strikes in sixty seconds to score a brutal TKO. Jauregui had been out for two years, but a performance like that puts her right back into the mix at Strawweight.
