Certain snacks that were sold in multiple provinces in Canada have been recalled.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said in a notice published Friday that they are being pulled from shelves due to allergen concerns.

Officials said they contain undeclared milk.

Roasted Broadbeans Ketchup

The CFIA said they were distributed in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick.

Consumers are being advised to not use, sell, serve, or distribute the impacted snacks.

Milk is considered a priority food allergen in Canada.

“When someone comes in contact with a food allergen or added sulphites, the symptoms of an allergic or allergic-type reaction may develop quickly and rapidly progress from mild to severe,” the government says.

“The most severe form of an allergic reaction is called anaphylaxis.”

The government notes that there is a difference between a milk allergy and lactose intolerance.

“A milk allergy occurs when a person’s immune system reacts abnormally to milk proteins; it can be life-threatening. Lactose intolerance occurs when a person cannot digest lactose, a component of milk, because their body does not produce enough of a specific enzyme that breaks down lactose,” the website says.

“Symptoms of lactose intolerance include abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea after milk ingestion. Lactose intolerance is not an allergy and is not life-threatening.”
