EAST NEW YORK, Brooklyn (WABC) — A NYCHA employee was killed after being struck by a falling tree in Brooklyn on Saturday.
It happened at 700 Euclid Ave. in the East New York section.
Police sources told Eyewitness News that a 56-year-old man was walking through a parking lot when he was struck by the falling tree.
NYCHA confirmed in a statement that the victim was one of their employees.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and the NYCHA community,” the statement said.
He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident happened during the nor’easter, which brought damaging wind gusts, but it’s not known whether the wind caused the tree to fall.
Also in Brooklyn, at least four people were injured by a falling tree around 5:30 p.m. at East 14thStreet and Avenue S at Kelly Park Playground in the Homecrest section.
FDNY officials say four people suffered minor injuries and were taken to Maimonides.
