The UFC Fight Night 289 main event was wild, fun, but also scary.
Raul Rosas Jr. continued his climb up the UFC bantamweight rankings, defeating veteran Raoni Barcelos in a thrilling war. The bout was ruled a knockout in Round 5, but it wasn’t your traditional finish.
Rosas Jr. (13-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) took down the Brazilian by the cage, and Barcelos (22-6 MMA, 11-5 UFC) almost immediately stiffened up and looked to be unconscious. Rosas Jr. noticed there was little resistance from his opponent, stopped himself from adding more damage on the ground, and stood up in victory.
Unfortunately, Barcelos remained on the ground unconscious. He was carried out on a stretcher and immediately taken to a nearby hospital in Las Vegas. There has yet to be an official medical update on Barcelos at the time of this writing, but there’s a report that Barcelos is conscious.
