MADISON, Wis. — Alpha Epsilon Pi nationals suspended chapter programming following hazing incident. 

AEPi nationals have been put on a cease and desist pending the findings from the investigation according to Chief Communications Officer Jonathan Pierce.

“AEPi Headquarters has issued a cease-and-desist directive to its Pi Chapter in Madison, Wisconsin, suspending all chapter programming pending a thorough investigation into alleged violations of the fraternity’s health and safety guidelines.”

The national chapter said the directive bans new member meetings, social and brotherhood events, philanthropy, chapter social media activity and other chapter gatherings, while permitting essential executive board administrative responsibilities to continue.  AEPi said it is urging members to cooperate fully with the investigation, which will inform recommendations to the fraternity’s Supreme Board of Governors for further actions impacting the chapter and or individual members. 

This investigation follows two people being arrested at an unsanctioned fraternity on Wednesday night. 

Officers were dispatched to the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, located along the 100 block of Langdon Street around 8:20 p.m. Police received an anonymous tip about this event.  

Police said inside the basement of the residence, and officers found around 30 other partially clothed males covered in food, condiments and other liquids. The vast majority of those in attendance were 18-year-olds according to police, and several of these men had visible injuries consistent with being physically assaulted. A thermostat in the room was set to 81 degrees creating hot and humid conditions. 

Officers declared the event unlawful and everyone was escorted outside, according to police, and all pledges were checked by officers for incapacitation and injuries. 

Police said Alpha Epsilon Pi is an unrecognized and unaccredited student organization, having been terminated by UW-Madison more than a decade ago.

Brayden J. Klein and Samuel N. Vane, 20, were both arrested for hazing and disorderly conduct. Both were taken to the Dane County Jail.
