Woman Who Had Been Stabbed Found Dead in Central Park

An unidentified woman who had been stabbed multiple times was found dead on Sunday morning in Central Park, the police said.

Investigators were questioning a man about the death of the woman, who also suffered severe head injuries, according to two law enforcement officials with knowledge of the matter.

Both the man and the woman appeared to be homeless, the officials said. So far, no one has been arrested, the police said.

The woman was discovered around 9:45 a.m. inside a gazebo near the Central Park Boathouse, a popular restaurant among New Yorkers and tourists.

She was found barefoot and covered in dirt hours after a Nor’easter swept through New York City and was pronounced dead just after 10 a.m., the officials said.

Killings in Central Park are rare. There were no murders between Jan. 1 and Sept. 20, according to the most recently available police data, and none last year during the same time period.
