Ogilvy says loss ‘will take a little while to get over’
Geoff Ogilvy wasn’t in the mood to second guess his decision to play five of his players all five sessions at Medinah following his team’s 17 to 13 defeat on Sunday.
The International side came short again despite carrying a three-point advantage into Sunday singles.
The Americans responded with a historic trouncing, winning nine of the 12 matches.
“Obviously we came here with high hopes,” Ogilvy said. “We had a really good team and a great environment. We had a pretty good plan, and I feel like the plan went pretty well the first three days. First four sessions, you couldn’t ask for more than to have a three-and-a-half point lead going into singles in the U.S., that’s a hard thing to do. We did the hard work the first three days.
He noted that Chicago got louder and louder as the day went on.
“I feel like it’s such a momentum game. Just somewhere in the middle of the day — it was sort of on a knife edge for a long time there in the middle of the day,” Ogilvy added. “You have a couple putts go in at the right time and the momentum goes our way, and it just didn’t do that today.”
