DA identifies Mass. man fatally shot in armed standoff with police
An armed man who was fatally shot by officers in Lakeville, Massachusetts, on Saturday, was identified by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
Lakeville police said they responded to a home at 8 Heritage Hill after receiving a report of a “disturbed person.”
The 911 caller let officers into the home, where the armed man was pointing a gun at officers. Officers commanded the man, later identified as Gregory Buckley, 31, to drop the gun.
Gunfire was exchanged between Buckley and officers, and he was hit.
According to authorities, officers immediately rendered aid to Buckley, who was taken to Morton Hospital, where he later died.
Four Lakeville officers were also taken to the hospital for evaluation and later released.
Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz confirmed that the officers were wearing body cameras, which recorded the entire incident.
Police did not say whether the allegedly armed man shot at officers first.
Neighbors told NewsCenter 5 they heard sirens and then hid in their basement following the shooting.
“I heard sirens, and I heard that there was something going on,” said Laura Lima. “My husband came upstairs and was like, ‘Let’s get the kids in the basement! There’s a shooting going on!'”
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident.
